28 militants killed in air strikes on Shawal

PESHAWAR: Warplanes bombed suspected hideouts in Shawal area of North Waziristan on Sunday, killing 28 militants.

The Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement that six targets had been destroyed in the air strikes carried out near the Afghan border.

Sindh boycotts inspection of water discharges, measurement

ISLAMABAD: Discrepancies in water discharges and their measurement at key inter-provincial distribution sites continued to pile up, leading the Sindh government to boycott an independent inspection at a Sindh-Balochistan border point on Sunday.

An independent team constituted by Indus River System Authority (Irsa) and led by Irsa Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Abdul Raqib Khan and Secretary Khalid Idrees Rana visited the Garang Regulator at provincial border.

Indian firing claims farmer�s life in Sialkot

SIALKOT: A farmer was killed and four others, including three women, were injured in unprovoked shelling by India in villages on the Sialkot Working Boundary in the small hours of Sunday.

Pasrur Assistant Commissioner Tauqeer Ilyas Cheema told reporters that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) fired several shells in Harpal, Thathi Khurd, Theekariyaal, Jarwal and Charwah villages when people were having their Sehri.

Over 60 Palestinians, 13 Israeli troops die in Gaza shelling and clashes


GAZA: More than 60 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers were killed as Israel shelled a Gaza neighbourhood on Sunday in the bloodiest fighting in a near two-week-old offensive.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of carrying out a massacre in Shejaia in the eastern suburbs of the city of Gaza and declared three days of mourning.

Afghan vote audit goes slowly as problems arise


KABUL: Four days after Afghanistan began a massive audit of millions of votes cast in the run-off presidential election, disagreements and a shortage of observers have slowed progress.

The audit of all 8.1 million ballots cast in the June 14 run-off round was agreed by rival candidates Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani, following a deal brokered by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

US urged to support operation even after pullout from Afghanistan

WASHINGTON: A five-member defence delegation from Pakistan has urged the United States to devise a mechanism for continuing to support the operation against Taliban militants in Fata even after its withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The delegation, which visited the United States last week, has also asked the Obama administration to re-evaluate its plan to withdraw all American troops from the country by the end of 2016.
