Budget focuses on Punjab, says PTI

Khawar Ghumman

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan chose a sweltering Sunday afternoon to lash out at the PML-N government for presenting a budget “for the rich, by the rich and of the rich”.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s central secretariat, he said that a fair analysis of the measures which the government had taken last year and what it proposed in the new budget clearly suggested that it was only interested in benefiting a particular group of the rich.

India-China talks make progress despite Tibet distraction

The Newspaper’s Correspondent

NEW DELHI: If the unusual but little publicised presence of a Tibetan representative at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration was someone’s ploy to stymie Sino-Indian ties, there was no indication of it from the official briefing of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s meetings in New Delhi on Sunday.

The Telegraph reported that there was a Chinese demarche over the presence at Mr Modi’s swearing-in last month of the so-called prime minister of the self-styled Tibetan-government-in-exile that operates out of Dharmasala. At best of times this kind of activity by Tibetans in any country is seen as a major provocation by Beijing. The subject did not figure in the official narrative on Sunday which was, therefore, surprisingly forward-looking, even upbeat.

The dead level had been increased to 1,378 feet from 1,376 feet about two years ago, the official recalled and said the dam was gradually losing its capacity as construction of a dam in upstream of Tarbela got delayed for one reason or the other.

Iran, US to hold direct talks on nuclear issue

AFP

TEHRAN: Direct talks with the United States this week on Tehran’s nuclear programme hold the key to bridging gaps in negotiations and sealing a deal, a top Iranian official said on Sunday.

The two countries will hold their first full-scale official and direct meetings in decades on Monday (today) and Tuesday in Geneva, with the route towards an eventual lifting of sanctions expected to be the main issue.
