Floods in Afghanistan kill 100


KABUL: More than 100 people have been killed and thousands left homeless by flash floods in north and west Afghanistan, officials said on Friday, prompting desperate pleas for help from the impoverished provincial authorities.

Nisar urges end to media trial of institutions

ISLAMABAD: Calling for an end to the ‘media trial’ of national institutions, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday said no one should have any doubts about where the government stood with regard to preserving the honour, dignity and prestige of its institutions.

Speaking to reporters at his Parliament House chamber, he said it was the government’s legal and constitutional duty to safeguard the interests of the armed forces as well as security and intelligence agencies.

PM pledges gas supply to all urban areas in Balochistan

QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced that all cities and towns of Balochistan would be provided with natural gas within three years.

After inaugurating the 404MW Uch-II power plant in Dera Murad Jamali on Friday, the prime minister said Balochistan would not be neglected anymore and that the province would be developed on priority basis.

Blast in Karachi leaves six dead, 28 injured

KARACHI: Six people were killed and 28 injured in a powerful bomb blast in Clifton area of the city on Friday. A woman and her son were among the dead.

The blast took place only a day after a police officer known for his anti-terrorism campaign and three other people were killed in a suicide attack near the city’s old Sabzi Mandi (vegetable market).

Video shows Gilani’s abducted son in chains

Clash with police leaves 3 Kashmiris dead


SRINAGAR: Three men were killed in a shootout with security forces in India-held Kashmir on Friday, the day after a local election official died in an attack in the restive region.

It was not clear whether the men who were killed had carried out Thursday’s attack in South Kashmir, in which one poll official died and five others were injured, but the clash took place in the same area.
